Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace the former manager as head coach of Wolves.
The previous coach was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game winless beginning to the top-flight season.
And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have previous links to the club - are part of the options to be considered by the club ownership.
The manager is presently at Middlesbrough, which would pose a possible obstacle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the former Luton manager - who made more than 100 of appearances for the club during his time as a player - is considered a strong contender for the position.
The mid-career manager is said to have backing from the club board as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.
O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise contender, even though he would be a surprising appointment given he was sacked by the club in the previous winter.
The ex- West Ham United midfielder is out of work meaning Wolves would not be required to pay any compensation.
